Don't miss more "Dexter and Kenna love moments" in this post and some to follow! You'll have to get to the end to see them!
Wednesday was the day before Independence Day in the Dominican Republic. The kids had the DR flag painted on their faces and marched parade-style through the neighborhood.
This photo is of all of the kids at the school on Wednesday
Pastor Pedro Juan is the pastor of the church and he is also a medical doctor serving people in the community.
When our team arrives, we get straight to work. The kids are very interested in what we are doing. This is one of my most favorite moments of this boy helping Dexter set a box in the wall.
Here Miguel (Mike) is practicing his Spanish with the older boys
On Wednesday, the guys finished all of the electrical work. All lights and outlets were tested and operating properly. Here is a photo to document the occasion and to celebrate!!
And then the priming began. Daniel is on the outside wall of the kitchen where there is some working space and a sink.
After the wiring was complete Mike and Daniel had some fun playing jump rope with leftover wire. So many games are the same across the globe. The adults also got in on the jumping. :)
During the morning hours while the men worked on the kitchen, the ladies were in the church worship center with most of the kids teaching them to sew. They caught on so quickly the first day that on the second day, we got some felt and taught them how to make bags and purses. The boys' desire to participate amazed us all!
After lunch, the women of the church and community came each day to sew. They learned how to use the machines the first day and they helped make the banners to hang in the church the second day.
well, maybe...
We enjoyed a delicious meal at Barry and Sona Burnette's home. They are a missionary couple that has been in the DR a very long time and help impact the community and people in marvelous ways.
Here are Dexter and Kenna on the way back to the hotel from the Burnette's. Ah... Love...
