Thursday: Finished Kitchen and Finished Sewing

Thursday was a national holiday in the DR the kids had no school that day. Our team worked to finish the projects we came to do and we fellow-shipped alongside the pastor and several people who attend the church. It was a fun day with less chaos. Here is what that looked like:

Mi Amiga Marielis made a pillow for me. :)

The ladies of the church (along with some of the kids) practicing their skills. The machines will be available to them on a regular basis. They made curtains for their homes and plan to make curtains and other items to sell as a source of income for their families.

James (the pastor's nephew), Brianna Burnette (missionary kid), and Carter Houck (missionary kid) helping to finish the paint in the kitchen
Drew Houck (missionary kid) learning to sew

The final coat of paint was applied in the kitchen and the fridge, sink and cook top were set in place. Our work on the kitchen is finished! Thank you to all of you who supported this endeavor. What joy to see the finished product and to know that they can begin serving meals to hungry kids. Below are some BEFORE and AFTER photos of the Kitchen.

Here are some before and afters of the worship center. We taught lots of people to sew and we made banners and curtains to hang in there. We also made curtains for the 2 bathrooms and hung curtains in pastor Pedro Juan's office.

It was also Miguel's 36th Birthday today (as well as Dominican Independence Day)! Our team ate dinner at the Burnette's home with the Houck family. Mike got to use the "you are special" plate and they made birthday cake for dessert!
