Our Electrical Team

Meet the men who helped light up this room!
Jon, Rick, Jeramy, and Daniel

These guys made MANY trips to the store for supplies and did a fantastic job getting power to this upstairs room to the church/school. This room will be used for the school as well as for the church. Iglesia Bautista Central (Central Baptist Church) has a heart for all the people of the Dominican Republic. They have a few daughter churches, one of them being a body of deaf believers. Because their facility has only one large room for a worship service, the hearing body of believers has their worship service in the morning and the deaf church has their service in the evening. Because many of the deaf parents have hearing children, they are often running around unsupervised and under little direction. They will now be able to hold their services simultaneously. The younger children of the deaf community will be cared for in Sunday school and child care and the older children can participate in a hearing or a deaf service. Praise the Lord that all can worship and be discipled!

Below is what the process looked like as they brought electricity to this room.

This is a "before" photo of what the room looked like when we arrived

The guys made many shopping trips to Bellon (like Home Depot) and Ochoa (like Lowes)

Conduit was built into the walls and was ready for us when we arrived. The guys fed wire through the conduit and added more to the floor area to get the whole room wired. The floor will receive another 3 inch layer of concrete to cover over the tubes.

Conduit and wiring run through the room

This is the scaffolding that was on the outside of the building that the Dominicans used as they built the structure

Before the wiring would be in operating condition, the power needed to be brought to this part of the building. There were a couple of Dominican electricians who helped with this process.

This is them working on getting the power to the 2nd floor

In the Dominican, it is common for amature electricians or homeowners to splice into any electrical connection they can get to, which results in an electrical spiderweb that wouldn't pass code in our country. Furthermore, the copper is a valuable commodity and is oftentimes stolen for a source of income. Below is the street post that carries electricity to the church building. A new wire with a stamp was installed to prevent theft.

This is a how the wire looked that powered the building coming up through the roof (we are looking straight down on it)

 The guys hung the lights

 And ran more more lines

And then the power was turned on and tested! It works! What a joy to know that this facility will be used in the name of Christ Jesus, our hope; The Light of the world! In Him there is no darkness.
