On two separate mornings, we had the awesome privilege of walking through the nearby neighborhoods (barrios) of two churches, Central and Villa Progresso. We had little suckers with 1 John 4:8 to give to the children and Spanish New Testaments to give to the adults.
We stopped to visit with families that attend those two churches and prayed
for their physical and spiritual needs. We also stopped to visit with
random people asking them if they were aware of their spiritual
condition, encouraging them with the hope that is found in Jesus, and praying with them.
We met and prayed for people from all different walks of life. Each story is unique. We met very old and very young. One woman's husband went to the States, had an affair and tore up her visa. She is alone in the D.R. and hasn't seen her daughter in 5 years. One woman had just gone out and bought another religious book looking for answers and wanting to be closer to God. We gave her a new testament and were able to show her what God says about our human spiritual condition, his sacrificial love for us, and the joy and hope we can have when our lives our surrendered to him alone. One little boy (photo just below) asked us what we were going to give him, because he is used to Americans walking through and giving them things. He didn't have a parent caring for him. We're actually not sure who cares for him. We gave him a New Testament, some suckers, and lots of hugs. There are many stories. Ask each of us from the team and we will have a different one to share.
God will wipe away every tear from our eyes; there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the former things have passed away. Heaven will come!!
