What a Difference a Year Makes

One of the joint projects between Primera Iglesia and Grace Baptist Church has been the building of a kitchen for the school at Primera Iglesia.  The school serves the children of the nearby barrio.   These children live in poverty and there is no guarantee that they will have enough food to eat each day.  While school is in session, and because of this new kitchen, the students at the school will be fed at least one meal per day.

Grace Baptist Church has had three mission teams at Primera Iglesia to help build this kitchen.  Last February the third mission team finished wiring the kitchen, making the kitchen complete.

The kitchen has an outdoor sink with an area for storage.  The wall behind this sink is the same wall in the above 2013 photo.

This kitchen is a dream come true for many.  While we have a tendency of expanding our homes or remodeling them for our families (which may be necessary), this modest kitchen will feed one solid meal a day to 80 or more children, for several years to come.  The kitchen will also be used by the church as they gather to fellowship over meals.  It will be used as they celebrate weddings and mourn at funerals.  The impact of a kitchen in a community such as this is unknown, but a tremendous blessing.  It will, in a very practical way, bless thousands.

The hard work and sweat, along with the many financial donations made this kitchen possible.  By God's grace, Grace Baptist Church has been used to answer the prayers of many people here at Primera Iglesia.  Prayers for a kitchen just like this.   Our church, along with our VBS program and a bike ride across the state of Minnesota combined to make this financially possible.  The church here is extraordinarily grateful for the gift and remind us of their thankfulness often.

While we celebrate this (and yes, we can celebrate), we are excited that the church we were able to bless offers so much more than food... they proclaim Jesus Christ.  While food may run out, the Bread of Life never runs out.  Though wells run dry, the Well of Life never runs dry.  The kitchen is put to great use filling the need for physical nourishment in a ministry that puts huge priority on the source for Spiritual nourishment... Jesus Christ.
